Secret #2

USE LESS DRAMATIC WORDS AND EXPRESSIONS TO EXPRESS YOUR FRUSTRATIONS AND NEGATIVE FEELINGS.

When you use strong and negative language to describe your frustrations you are actually making things worse by increasing the intensity of your negative emotions. Using phrases like the following are unhelpful:

  • I AM GOING CRAZY!
  • I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE!
  • I HATE YOU!
  • IT WAS DISGUSTING!
  • I FEEL LIKE THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END!
  • I AM HOPELESS!

When you use less intense negative words will lead to less intense negative feelings.

INTENSE NEGATIVE PHRASES BETTER USE OF NEGATIVE PHRASES
I am depressedI am terrifiedI am furious I am a little down right nowI am a bit nervous

I am annoyed

Add a downplaying word to your negative phrases:

INTENSE NEGATIVE PHRASES DOWNPLAY THE NEGATIVE PHRASES
I am angryI am miserable

I am frantic

I am a bit upsetI am a little down

I am somewhat concerned

CONTROLLING YOUR use of intense emotional language will calm your emotions.

When you use words like “nice, good, and fine” then you will feel average and ordinary. When you replace these phrases with more vibrant words like “spectacular, amazing and superb” you will feel more vibrant and you feel yourself “come alive” and  increase your happiness level. Why? You feel the way you act and think. Think and speak intensely happy and you will BECOME more excited about you own life and you will start ENJOYING YOUR LIFE more.
